I presented the "Webquest for The Slave Dancer" at this conference. The file can be found on the Googlelittrips page.
Dr. Jerry Haddock invited me to submit an application to speak at the conference, and I was accepted. I presented an updated and expanded version of the webquest listed above, and available for download on the Googlelittrips and Googlelittrips 2 pages. The presentation was November 24, 2008, at the Anaheim Convention Center (https://www.acsi.org/web2003/default.aspx?ID=6290⧏).
I presented an updated and expanded version of the webquest listed above, and available for download on the Googlelittrips and Googlelittrips 2 pages. The presentation was on Sunday, December 7, 2008, at 8am, in Monterey, California. My audience of Middle School Teachers asked many questions, and seemed quite ready to approach one of these explorations themselves. I met Mr. Jerome Burg, the GooglelitTrip.com creator, and spent some time with him, discussing how the format for studying literature is working in my classes, as well as the workshops for teachers. The workshop was a lot of fun, and I hope that everyone in attendance found something they could use.
I was part of "Just in Time Training..." presented by Lila Bronson, Ed.D., Linda Benafel, and Katie Warren, and talked about my experiences as an Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) Mentor Teacher. We had a great turnout, and the presentation highlighted best practices in professional development, and some of the other benefits reaped from the EETT grant, including the use of Vantage Learning's GoMyAccess.com Student Writing program.
I also met many professionals and friends during my Thursday and Saturday attendance. The scope of presentations was amazing, and I was in "brain full" mode afterwards. I had lunch with Jerome Burg (GoogleLittrips.com and CUE Board member), and was given much scholarly advice! Had a great time at my first CUE National Conference, and wondered to myself, "How come I haven't been here before?" This wonderful organization has greatly affected my life this past year, and I will be with them for a long time to come. I've become part of the Cue Community, and look forward to much enlightenment at the monitor.
I presented on Googlelittrips at the TechEd 2009 conference in Ontario, California. This focused on the use of Googlelittrips in secondary education, 6-12th grades. The presentation was be a tour of middle school and high school googlelittrips, and the interest range was wide-ranging. As Mr. Jerome Burg was apprised of this presentation, it was posted on his website at Googlelittrips.com. It was a well-attended seminar, but some commented that it would have been a better "hands-on" workshop. I'd applied for it in that manner, but was only given the option of a "show-and-tell." I'm thinking about expanding the scope of the workshop to include the opportunity to "begin your own GoogleLittrip" in the workshop, to have people bring along a target book, and guide them through the initial process.
Glen Cornish, Ted Lai, and Richard Mellott copresented at the TechEd 2009 conference in Ontario, California, on videoconferencing with professionals in the classroom. Mr. Mellott and Mr. Cornish beamed in, to demonstrate the two platforms, and Mr. Cornish was present on site as well, in this demonstration of the power of videoconferencing using iChat and Skype. I felt honored to be working with these two veteran educators, and we keep in contact, through our involvement in the Painted Light Images Educational Corporation, where all of us are board members.
Together with Mr. Glen Cornish of Painted Light Images Educational Corporation, I will be presenting the how-to bring professional guest speakers into your classroom, via Skype and iChat, two free applications for VOIP technology. We will be displaying snippets of videoconferences we've recorded, and then instructing our audience on how to set them up. PLIEC also functions as a facilitator of videoconferencing, and is available to assist in setting up contacts with various professionals in various fields, as well as providing some technical support and consultation.
